Dream Fm Political Voices; Zoning a contentious Issue across the Country – Ekweremadu

His Excellency Prof. Ike Ekweremadu(Ikeoha), today on political voices, a program of Dream Fm, Enugu, Enugu State, Nigeria. Have demonstrated great level of wisdom and understanding of the political environment of Nigeria in general and Enugu State in Particular. To a novice or someone who lacks understanding of English language or who probably out of hatred may decide to say that Ekweremadu didn’t gave a direct answer when asked if there was zoning of positions in Nigeria in general and across the states of the federation, especially Enugu State, Ekweremadu didn’t answer if there is zoning or not. But to many who is well learned in the Use of English, Ekweremadu simply said that there was no where in the constitution of the Country that zoning was contained, neither were there any document signed by the People of any state especially Enugu State that zoned Governorship to any Senatorial District.

His reply using the word contentious was well understood, but for the benefit of doubt, we will refer those who want him to answer directly that there was no zoning in Nigeria or Enugu State to check the dictionary meaning of “contentious”. In my own search of the meaning of the Word “contentious” I arrived at this –

contentious –
causing or likely to cause an argument; controversial.

From the words in the above meaning, you could see Argument and Controversial. We may also help you with the meanings below! controversial – giving rise or likely to give rise to controversy or public disagreement. Controversy – prolonged public disagreement or heated discussion.

disagreement: failure to agree. : a difference of opinion : an argument caused by people having different opinions about something. : the state of being different or unalike.

Consequently one can understand that Ekweremadu simply stated that there was nothing like zoning. We only have people with different opinions on zoning which didn’t reflect an agreed position by the people of the country or State, but were based on individual opinions. His reply was that of a Lawyer and a wise man who have great wisdom on how best to respond to answers in other not to heat up the polity. He equally started his answer thus – Although the PDP zoned its National Chairman to the North, they nevertheless said the president could come from any part of the country. With this, people can clearly understand that the Governorship candidate of the PDP in Enugu State can come from any part of the state, provided that the candidate is credible.

It may also interest you to know that the PDP is just one out of many political parties in Nigeria and in Enugu State and cannot decide on zoning for the Nation or State but can do that for their party which at the moment, no PDP Stakeholder have provided any written document where zoning was done for the Governorship position in Enugu State. Hence the term contentious as said by Prof. Sen. Ike Ekweremadu.
