Body Identified in a Morgue.
I wish to inform everyone that our missing daughter, Mary Mbah ( Mary Capi – Capinta Olovo Ali, la obulegu ebokwe Amaegu Agbada), married to a man from Umuoji Emudo Nenwe, Who was missing, has been found.
On receiving this message at about 10 am this morning , I quickly called the son of the woman, and drove down to Maryland Police station, Anthony Village, to meet with him and one other man from Emudo.
Unfortunately, she was confirmed dead by the Police , and her body was immediately traced and identified at Yaba Government Mortuary , by her son and husband’s relative. The Police stated that she was crushed to death by oncoming vehicle around Anthony area of Lagos at about 7.30 pm, last Sunday, while crossing the road. She was last seen in NIU women end of year party, and was involved in that accident while returning to her residence at Ikorodu .
Her son, the husband’s brother and I, were able to meet and discuss with the Police and the family of the driver who killed her. Discussion was inconclusive , but there were some points of agreement towards a peaceful settlement and joint effort to contribute to her burial arrangements. The discussion will be sustained, until the matter is settled.
The Police was very helpful and the Divisional Traffic Office was all thanks to Almighty God for her relatives to show up, as she had prayed that the spirit of the woman should direct the relations to her Police station. The Woman Police officer narrated how many fatal accident victims have been buried by Government authorities after expiration of the mandatory period without relatives showing up. She also commended the driver who defiantly stayed and tried to assist the woman to live, along with other volunteers, before she finally died. The Police officer said that in most other accident cases the drivers involved would rather prefer to speed off, to avoid arrest, in a scenario popularly known as ” hit and run” . I sincerely appreciate the Police effort and their kind and willing respect to me. The entire thing took the whole day, as we left the Police Station at about 4PM.
May I use this opportunity to thank Umu Nenwei, especially the NOL family and the leadership of Nenwe Women Wing or Meeting in Lagos, who took every kind and urgent step to escalate this incident. I must state that the spirit of oneness display by our Nenwe people in this case is commendable and should roundly be emulated in all incidents confronting or concerning anyone from Nenwei, in anywhere around the globe.
I must confess that this information is not and should not be taken as the official announcement of the Woman’s death or authoritative obituary announcement by her family, but an update report which I have provided as a Nenwerian who volunteered to participate in searching for our own missing daughter, mother, sister and wife.
Again!, thanks everyone. United!! Nenwei stands!!!
